Know More About Us

Gandhi Seva Sangha (GSS), a registered society committed to social welfare and charitable services, was founded in 1946 with the vision of uplifting underprivileged and economically challenged communities. Located at Gandhi More, Sreebhumi, near Laketown and Dakshindari in Kolkata, GSS has been providing multifaceted and uninterrupted social welfare services for more than six decades, particularly in the fields of health, education, and self-reliance. It is an apolitical, non-government, and non-commercial organization managed by a dedicated and dependable group of people.

Our History

Foundation and Early Development

1946 to 1956

Gandhi Seva Sangha and Buniadi Vidyalaya were established, and land was donated by the Jorasanko Daw family.

Expansion of Educational and Health Services

1966 to 1976

Adult Education Centre and Homeopathic Clinic started, and the school was upgraded to a Junior School.

Infrastructure Development and New Programs

1976 to 1986

The school building’s first floor was inaugurated, vocational training for women began, and the public library and charitable allopathic clinic were opened.

Community Health and Vocational Training Expansion

1986 to 1996

Outdoor health clinics were established, child development and toy library started, computer training began, and the first floor of the Sangha building was inaugurated.

Healthcare Expansion and Vocational Training

1996 to 2006

Eye clinic and operations were introduced, silk screen printing and dress-making vocational programs launched, and the Seva Nibas for cancer patients was set up.

Infrastructure Expansion and Community Services

2007 to 2008

Seva Nibas was extended with dormitories, and the public library was expanded with funding from the Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation.

Healthcare and Hospital Development

2009 to 2010

Eye clinic activities expanded, and the foundation stone for Gandhi Seva Sadan Hospital was laid.

Final Phases of Development and New Initiatives

2013 to 2016

Public library remodeling, Seva Nibas extended to accommodate 25 patients, and the Gandhi Seva Sadan OPD and GSS IT division were inaugurated.
